Our Story
The roots of Indica Interiors and Designs trace back to a
name steeped in history—Indica, derived from the book written by Megasthenes,
the ambassador of Seleucus to Emperor Chandragupta Maurya of India. The term
encapsulates the essence of the Indian subcontinent, reflecting its rich
heritage and deep cultural connections.
The journey of Indica Interiors and Designs began in 2004
during a visit to IIT Kanpur, India. It was here that the founder conceived the
idea of creating a platform to showcase traditional items from the IBP
region—India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The term IBP itself was coined to
represent the cultural and historical ties between these regions.
Initially, the concept was named Vanga.com, inspired by the
ancient Gangaridai empire of Vanga (modern-day Bengal), known for its
resilience against the invasions of Alexander the Great in 326 BCE. However, it
was soon realized that Vanga, being specific to Bengal, did not fully encompass
the diverse cultures of the entire IBP region.
Seeking a name that would resonate with the broader
heritage of India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, the founder turned to the name
Indica—a term that unites the vast and varied traditions of these regions.
Thus, Indica Collection was born, symbolizing a commitment to preserving and
celebrating the cultural heritage of the IBP region.
