Islamic architecture and interior design

Islamic architecture is architecture based on Islamic principles. It is not like that in Islam there is a study incorporated in the religion like Vastu Shastra.

Considerations for Islamic interior design

The main considerations for Islamic design is to take care not to place pictures of living things in any of the rooms or buildings.

The Hadith as follows:

Aisha reported: Umm Habibah and Umm Salamah mentioned a church they saw in Abyssinia that had graven images in it. They mentioned it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said,

“Verily, when a righteous man among them would die, they would build a place of worship over his grave and carve these images within it. They will be the worst to Allah on the Day of Resurrection.”

Idolatry or shirk is seen as the worst sin in Islam and cannot be forgiven after death. The origin of shirk starts from pictures leading to building of statutes and ultimately worship. This is called Shirk.

So take care in design should be:

·                     No pictures of living things on walls or anywhere in building

·                     No statutes of living things.

·                     No symbols of other religions like cross.

 The origins of Islamic architecture

Early architecture was influenced by the Byzantine and Persian architecture. Huh? Well provided above restrictions are followed previous styles could be used.

The 7th century saw many examples in various mosques. The architecture of this era was known for some styles:

·                     Minarets

·                     Domes

·                     Mihrab

·                     Arches

One of the well-known architectures of Islamic World is Al Hambra Palace. This was the palace of Muslim rulers in Spain. It is being built by Ibn Al Ahmar in 1358.The various gardens and calligraphy had made it great beautiful palace even today.
